Nollywood Entertainers Who Announced Buhari, Sanwo-Olu As Their Preferred Candidate

A group of actors in lagos state has announced President Muhammadu Buhari and Babajide Sanwo-Olu as their preferred candidates in the forthcoming election.

As the forthcoming 2019 elections draw nearer, Nigerian actors under the aegis of the League of Lagos state Artistes have announced their preferred candidates for the presidential and Lagos state governorship elections.

In a statement made available to Legit.ng, veteran actor, Jide Kosoko, who was the convener of the group, said it has become expedient for Nigerians to sustain the progress of the on-going developmental efforts of the incumbent president. He noted that sustainability can only be enhanced with the re-election of Buhari and election of Sanwo-Olu in Lagos state.

The Lagos prince speaking further noted that:

“As citizens, we have our civic responsibilities, not only to vote but also to collectively engage in educating and informing our people through our trade – entertainment. We have come to the conclusion that only one man, at the moment fit into the bill to help steer the ship of state and continue in the gradual redemption of our national pride and that man is President Muhammadu Buhari.”

He also said of the artistes in Lagos state that: “We cannot but take a more than passing interest in the politics of Lagos state, where most of us are domiciled. It is therefore of great importance to us who becomes the next governor of the Centre of Excellence. The League of Lagos Artistes, after due consideration of the available options for governor of the state, hereby individually and collectively endorse Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu for Governor and Dr Femi Hamzat for Deputy Governor, Lagos.”

Prince Kosoko stated their main reason for supporting Buhari for president:

“The lack of discipline has given room for unmitigated corruption, a culture of waste, injustice in every strata of our society and chronic lack of patriotism. These, added together, have been responsible for the country’s slow pace of development.
After considering the above, and bearing in mind the need to instill discipline in the body polity in order to curb corruption, injustice, wasteful and profligate spending of the nation’s resources and build a sense of patriotism in Nigerians, we have come to the conclusion that only one man, at the moment fit into the bill to help steer the ship of state and continue in the gradual redemption of our national pride and that man is President Muhammadu Buhari.

The war against corruption, has also, for the first time in a long while, been extended to the judiciary, a move that is no doubt commendable.

This, for us, means that the law, for the first time in this country, is no respecter of anybody. The era of some sacred ones among us because of status and position is now a thing of the past.

This means justice for all!

Kosoko also addressed the issue of people condemning artistes for supporting politicians.

He said: “From all indications, those who have been most vehement in the condemnation of our involvement are those who are not fortunate to have our support. We however have a duty to educate them that we are equally citizens of this great country called Nigeria. And as citizens, we have our civic responsibilities, not only to vote but also to collectively engage in educating and informing our people through our trade, entertainment.”

Speaking further on the reason the artistes are involved in politics, Foluke Daramola-Salako noted that they are first of all citizens of Nigeria before being an artist thus they have a right to be politically inclined.

Other actors at the meeting include Adebayo Salami popularly known as Oga Bello, Alhaji Taiwo Hassan aka Ogogo, Yemi Solade, Ayo Badmus, Ayo Adesanya, Iyabo Ojo, Funsho Adeolu, Madam Saje, Ronke Ojo, Lasun Ray, Muka Ray, Abbey Lanre among others.

The artistes noted that the APC candidates for president and Lagos state had invited them over for chats and promised to help them fight piracy, build cinemas that will be run the government private cinemas (70-30%).

They also noted that Sanwo-Olu and Buhari promised to create a centre for exhibition of films and also a parastatal for entertainment among other things.
