The 2019 elections is just around the corner and it is inevitable that President Buhari make a brief stopover in the region even if had hardly gone their during his tenure as president.
However, President Buhari will storm the South East with some form of confidence after he had concentrated a large portion of his infrastructural and drive in the area. True, he had failed to appoint a sizable number of people from the region to his cabinet but he has made up for that by starting and completing several projects in the Geo-Political zone.
However, the activities of secessionist groups such as the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and the Movement for the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB), threatens to cast a dent on President Buhari’s visit and report suggest that security officials have swung into action, moving swiftly to crackdown on those they believe pose a threat to the president’s safety.
However, irrespective of Buhari’s visit, the turnout of voters in the South East is expected to be low after IPOB asked the people of the region to boycott the election. The group recently reiterated its stance recently stressing that not even the candidacy of Peter Obi as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate will not change their view.
“It is important we notify our people mostly politicians, clergymen and women including pastors who strongly believe in rebuilding one Nigeria to retrace their steps because Nigeria Government and it’s leadership has been hijacked by Fulani people.
Our leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu during his weekly radio Biafra broadcast from the holy land of Israel on Saturday evening reaffirmed strongly to the people and gullible Nigerians who still doubt our stand towards boycotting the forthcoming presidential election next month.
“It is crystal clear that one of our major lethal weapons to achieve this present Biafra demand is civil disobedience, therefore we urge Biafrans, both home and abroad to advise and caution their families not to vote and totally boycott this coming election no matter the level of promises and inducement politicians of this days might have given them.
“In few days to come, IPOB high command will release a blueprint and how this election boycott will be achieved and its benefit to Biafrans, IPOB will evoke a high level of civil disobedience next month to make it effective for Biafrans to realize how much determined we are.
Okezie Ikpeazu and David Umahi who unbeknown to most people have donated a portion of our sacred land of Biafra to Miyetti Allah cannot support Operation Python Dance and expect the people not to revolt accordingly. IPOB is at the front of this coming revolution next month,” media and publicity secretary of IPOB, Emma Powerful, said in a statement.
In another campaign stopover, this time in Sokoto State, President Buhari was visibly moved by the large turnout of supporters despite the fact that the Governor of the State, Aminu Tambuwal recently defected to the PDP from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and actually almost pick up the party’s nomination ticket but came second the former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar during the PDP convention in Port Harcourt last year.
Buhari while addressing the large crowd promised not to disappoint them if he secured re-election for a second term in office.
“When I came here in 2015, I made these promises; security, economy and to fight corruption and you are living witnesses that we are fulfilling these promises.
“We will construct railway from Jibya to Gusau and Gusau to Sokoto then to Kebbi,” Buhari said. SHARE THIS STORY USING ANY OF THE BUTTON BELOW ⬇ PLACE YOUR TEXT ADVERT BELOW ⬇⬇⬇
