BREAKING NEWS: OAU ‘S£X-For-Marks’ Lecturer, Akindele Sentenced To Two Years In Prison

Prof. Richard Iyiola Akindele, who was dragged to court for demanding sex to pass one of his students, Monica Osagie, on Monday was sentenced to two years in prison. Richard Akindele, a former lecturer at the Obafemi Awolowo (OAU), Ile-Ife, has pleaded guilty to charges levelled against him by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).

Akindele was arraigned before a federal high court in Osogbo on November 19. He was arraigned on four counts bothering on alteration of age and demanding s*x to pass his student.

Akindele had earlier pleaded not guilty to the charges but at the resumption of hearing on Monday, he changed his plea from “not guilty” to “guilty.”

Shogunle Adenekan, the prosecutor, said all parties in the matter had reached an agreement and pleaded for a suspended sentence for the accused. The matter was stood down for one hour.

The former OAU lecturer had earlier sought a bail application which was declined by the court.

In an audio which went viral online in April, Akindele was heard demanding five sessions of s*x to award Monica Osagie, a postgraduate student, a pass mark in a course she failed.

He was dismissed in June, following investigations into the matter by the governing council of the institution.
