The Vice Chairman, PCNI, Tijjani Tumsa, explained that the agency was working with the state governments in the region to prepare for the return and rehabilitation of the displaced citizens.
Speaking at the PCNI’s coordination forum for September in Abuja on Friday, Tumsa said the meeting was to develop strategies for the return of the IDPs.
He noted that the PCNI would continue to work with partners to ensure that the returning IDPs could access basic services that could create the enabling environment for them to rebuild their lives.
Tumsa said, “A substantial number of them want to go back and they want to go back into a secure environment.
“With the success recorded by the Nigerian military, an increasing number of people who were displaced by the crisis desire to return to their homes.
“Our goal is to ensure the return process is safe, voluntary and sustainable.”
He added that the agency would continue to partner others to ensure speedy rehabilitation of those displaced by the Boko Haram insurgency.
