Nigerian bags two years jail term for kidney racketeering in India

A court in India has sentenced a Nigerian to two years in jail for kidney racketeering.

The Nigerian was also fined Rs 1 lakh [about N525,768].

37-year-old David Uzoma Ubah, who was arrested in Bengaluru on 4 October 2017, created a fake look-alike website of Fortis Hospital and floated an advertisement asking for kidney donations. He claimed that the donors would be compensated by the hospital itself.

The accused posted similar advertisements on another website mentioning a mobile number along with the name of a doctor working with the hospital.

Ubah was arrested alongside his aide, one Ramara Devalaya of Nagenahalli, Bengaluru.
