LASG arraigns Dane for alleged murder of his wife and daughter

The Lagos State Government on Wednesday arraigned a Danish national, Peter Nielsen, for the alleged murder of his Nigerian wife, Zainab, and their three-year-old daughter, Petra, before a Lagos State High Court in Igbosere.

Fifty-three-old Peter was arraigned on two counts of murder, which he pleaded not guilty to.

PUNCH Metro had reported that the victims – Zainab Nielsen, aka Alizee, a Nigerian singer, and her daughter, Petra – were found dead on April 15 at their residence at Bella Vista Tower, Banana Island, Ikoyi.

Peter was arrested by operatives from the Ikoyi Police Division and transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Yaba.

The Lagos State police spokesperson, SP Chike Oti, had said marks of violence were found on the deceased, noting that they were allegedly killed in the bedroom and dragged to the kitchen.

He said Zainab’s younger sister, Gift, who lived with the family, had reported to the Facility Manager, Bella Vista Tower, Mr Kunle Kukoyi, that her sister was allegedly assaulted by the suspect.

The state prosecutor, Adeniji Kazeem, said the offence committed was punishable under Section 223, Cap. C17, Vol. 3, of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

However, the defendant’s counsel, O. Shasore, informed the court that the defence would like to carry out a DNA test on Peter.

The presiding judge, Justice Bola Okikiol-Ighile, asked the defendant if he permitted that his blood sample should be taken for the test.

He answered in the affirmative.

Shasore, who informed the court that the report of the autopsy carried out by the prosecution was out, said, “We are also interested in the report and the prosecution has assured us that we will get it in four weeks. We need to consult some of our experts for analysis of the test, as we will need it during trial.”

The prosecutor informed the court that there was an interim autopsy report and it would be sent to the defence.

Kazeem said the defendant’s blood sample would be collected by the state government forensic lab.

Justice Okikiol-Ighile ordered that Peter should be remanded in custody and adjourned the case till October 8 and 9, for commencement of trial.
