Thomas Markle is missing out on the royal wedding following a heart attack, according to a Monday TMZ report. The former TV lighting and photography director, who worked on shows like Married... with Children and General Hospital, told TMZ he suffered a heart attack about six days ago but “checked himself out” so he could be present for Megan Markle’s wedding.
He also noted that he did not want to bring any further embarrassment to the royal family or his daughter.
Thomas Markle was recently in headlines over the weekend after claims emerged that he collaborated with paparazzi to pose in pictures while getting measured for his wedding suit and googling news of his daughter’s upcoming wedding ceremony. Markle allegedly worked with a Los Angeles based photographer on four separate occasions to take photos that were later published in magazines, newspapers, and websites globally, according to Daily Mail. Although it is unclear if Thomas Markle was paid for the photos, the pictures were sold for about $100,000 around the world.
Meghan Markle’s half-brother, Thomas Markle Jr., told Daily Mail Monday that his father was “deeply embarrassed” by the claims. In another report published by the British newspaper, The Mirror, Thomas Markle Jr. said his dad planned to “apologize sincerely to Meg,” for photos Thomas Markle claimed were taken while being beleaguered by paparazzi. “Ever since Meg’s relationship with Harry was made public two years ago, we have lived our once normal lives under the spotlight every second,” Thomas Markle Jr. said.
A recipient of two Daytime Emmy Awards for his work on General Hospital, Thomas Markle has long retired from Hollywood and reportedly lives a low key life in Mexico beach town Rosarito, Business Insider reported in December.
