Bishop (Dr) Wale Oke, a popular Nigerian cleric and the Vice Chancellor of Precious Cornerstone University (PCU), Ibadan, on Sunday, dedicated the operating license of the university to God, and revealed how he declined an opportunity to get a $25 million loan urgently needed to build the university’s infrastructure, NaijaChurchNews reports.

Speaking at the special service held at Garden of Victory, Ibadan, said he obeyed God’s divine instruction to stop the processes of obtaining the loan, only to get more than the needed funds from freewill donations and goodwill.

In apparent attestation to miraculous funding provision when needed, Oke said the university owed no one a dime in acquiring all assets of the recently licenced university.

While announcing the commencement of academic activities at the university’s temporary site, in the premises of Garden of Victory, Oke asserted that PCU was poised to raise scholars that are sound academically, morally and spiritually.

He added that the PCU was a faith-based mission university focused on not producing educated rogues.

The event featured delivery of goodwill messages from the Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo represented by Chaplain, Aso Rock Chaplain, Mr Seyi Malomo; Governor Abiola Ajimobi represented by Chief of Staff, Gbade Ojo; the Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Saliu Adetunji; Chief Medical Director, University College Hospital, Professor Temitope Alonge; Chancellor, Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti, Aare AfeBabalola; Vice Chancellor, University of Ibadan, Professor Idowu Olayinka; Wife of Kwara governor, Mrs Omolewa Ahmed, among others.

Vice Chancellor, Ajayi Crowther University, Oyo, Professor Dapo Asaju, who delivered the special word on the occasion, emphasized the imperativeness of the church establishing universities to produce sound and morally upright individual for society.‎

According to Asaju, private universities were making more impact than public universities in producing individuals that will engender the needed change in the society.

In the run-up to the 2019 elections, Asaju said the church must pray for the emergence of a leader to salvage the nation and bring about the desired change.

Describing Nigeria as a leaderless country, he said Nigerians, especially the youths, must be actively involved so as to elect leaders that won’t jeopardise their lives.

The Olubadan of Ibadan land, Oba Saliu Adetunji, in an earlier visit of the management of PCU to his palace described the university as a great blessing to Ibadan land.

The monarch noted that aside from providing a conducive environment for learning and research, the institution will provide employment for good people of Ibadan.

Oba Adetunji prayed for the successful take-off of the institution.
