A Mirror Football source said: “Wayne knows he has got to do this and has really thrown himself into it. He doesn’t mind getting his hands dirty and he looked like he was enjoying it”
The £150,000-a-week star was chauffeured to his shift, near his £6million home in Prestbury, Cheshire. Mirror Football gathered that around 8.40am Rooney walked in to the community service venue wearing a blue jacket, blue hoodie, matching blue bottoms and black Nike trainers. He has already completed two days of work at least 12 hours. The garden centre is the same venue where former Manchester United team mate Carlos Tevez was ordered to work after he was banned four years ago.
Rooney left at 3.04pm, wearing his wedding ring. He strolled outside to his waiting driver who had been parked for 90 minutes. Rooney has told pals he is more than happy to work there. After he was sentenced last month, he apologised and added: “I accept the court’s decision and hope I can make amends through my community service.”
Rooney was arrested in the early hours of September 1 as he drove a VW Beetle belonging to Laura Simpson, 29, in the passenger seat. They had met in a bar in Wilmslow while his pregnant wife Coleen was on holiday with their three children. When stopped by police at 2am, over a faulty tail light, he had 104mcg of alcohol per 100ml of breath.
