The group made the call during a protest at the premises of the Federal High Court, Enugu.
They claimed that Malami was carrying out acts undeserving of his position, including interfering in judicial process on pending cases.
It was gathered that their protest was in connection to a matter pending at the Federal High Court Lagos, before Justice Ibrahim Buba.
The group alleged that judgement, which was due to be delivered in the case, was arrested by Malami, following his order for the withdrawal of the case file from the judge.
They carried placards with various inscriptions such as: “Who is afraid of Buba? MCSN syndicate must face trial under the law; someone call Malami to order; don’t mess with the judiciary; Malami must go; Abubakar Malami is the AGF not the law; Malami is minister of injustice.”
Spokesman of the group, Prince Biodun Eguakhide, who spoke alongside their lawyer, Bright Erhauyi said the protest was in solidarity with their chairman, Chief Tony Okoroji “who this week began a one-man protest, which has spread through Lagos to Abuja and now happening in Enugu.
“This has to do with a frightening new assault on the Nigerian judiciary with the arm twisting and blackmailing of a Federal High Court judge to be unable to deliver judgment as he deems fit.”
While giving insight into the matter, which he said was between the group and the Musical Copyright Society of Nigeria, MCSN, Eguakhide said Buba’s judgement, which would have been delivered on December 14, 2017, would answered whether the MCSN was truly “an approved collecting society and authorized to collect money on behalf of innocent Nigerian musicians.”
He added that “somebody did not want that question answered, hence the muscling of Justice Ibrahim Buba.”
“Justice Buba did not deliver the judgement. A visibly angry Buba said that the previous evening, he received a petition against him from a party in the case, obviously trying to intimidate him. He announced that ‘come rain, come sunshine’ he would deliver the judgement on December 14.
“On December 14, Justice Buba still did not deliver the judgement. He said that the case file had been taken from him and he had no choice but to adjourn the matter till further notice”, the group lamented.
