When they weren’t on the court, the sisters spoke to ESPN’s Jemele Hill, who moderated the event, about how violence has affected their family.
“Violence has affected our lives personally — we lost our sister, she was the oldest — to violence,” said Serena. “There’s a lot of times where people are in the communities and they don’t have a place or an area or somewhere they can go to put that energy – to get some of that negative energy out and be creative.”
After giving birth in September and saying “I do” in November, Williams is reportedly prepping to return to the court in January for the Australian Open in the hopes of defending her title, this according to tournament director Craig Tiley. She beat big sister Venus while carrying baby Alexis during this year’s Australian Open tournament.
We’re looking forward to her return to the tennis court, whenever that will officially be. Until then, baby steps (pun intended).
