Woods’ decline and fall was given a brutal public airing in May when he was arrested at 3am in Florida after falling asleep in his car.
The police dashcam video of a swaying, stumbling Woods cut a pitiful scene.
Six months on, and after successful surgery on the back injury which forced him onto the powerful medication, Woods is back on the course at the Hero World Challenge in Bahamas.
Smiling, relaxed, and confident that he has, at last, overcome the physical problems which meant that “I couldn’t get from A to B in my own, house, couldn’t get out of bed”, Woods is ready to play again.
But first he had to confront some of his personal demons in public.
“No. I haven’t watched it,” declared Woods, 41, when asked about the grainy black and white images that charted his lowest point.
“I always thought I was tough mentally. My dad always thought that as well.
“Going through all this has reinforced that.
“I’ve come out the other side and I’m feeling fantastic. A lot of friends have helped me.
“Looking back, I didn’t realise how bad my back was.
"Now I’m feeling the way I am, it’s hard to imagine how I was living, when I was feeling so much pain in my foot and leg that I wasn’t able to sleep.”
