The command stated that the vigorous stop-and-search operation will be mainly carried out along highways of the City centre to check the criminality.
The FCT police spokesman, Anjuguri Manzah, in a statement, therefore, advised motorists to have the proof of ownership of their vehicles in their possession to avoid embarrassment.
He counseled car owners on various ways to protect their vehicles, noting that the command was working assiduously to arrest the nefarious elements perpetrating the crime in the FCT.
Manzah stated that most stolen vehicles were removed from the parking lot and advised owners to install trackers or use pedal or steering lock to guard against theft.
He said, “The command would embark on a vigorous stop-and-search along the highways; as such members of the public are hereby advised to always have proof of ownership of their cars in their possession to avoid embarrassment by the police.”
The police said cars should be parked in well-lit areas, especially at night, adding that vehicles should be locked even while driving.
“When parked, keys should not be left in the car and all the windows and sunroof should be closed; valuables, such as briefcases, handbags, should not be kept in public view and do not leave your original particulars in your car,”the command advised.
Manzah called on residents to cooperate with the police by adhering to the tips.
“In case of distress, the command control room can be reached through the following emergency numbers: 08032003913, 08061581938, 07057337653 and 08028940883,” he added.
