Real Madrid vs Barcelona: Spanish Super Cup second leg at Bernabeu

Real Madrid look to complete early bragging rights over their El Clasico rivals Barcelona with the Spanish Super Cup at stake.
The European champions stunned the Catalan giants with a 3-1 win in Sunday’s first leg.

But will tonight’s encounter escape controversy?

On Sunday, Cristiano Ronaldo was sent off and subsequently banned for five games after shoving the referee. But Real could yet win an appeal to see the ban dramatically overturned.

Whether Ronaldo plays or not, expect it to another typically lively affair at the Bernabeu.

Cristiano Ronaldo has slammed his five-match ban for a red card and then pushing the referee as “exaggerated and ridiculous”.

The Real Madrid star’s appeal of the ban from Real Madrid’s 3-1 win over Barcelona as “persecution” in an explosive Instagram post.

The Portuguese reacted angrily after being given a harsh second yellow for diving as a substitute in the Super Copa - that carried a one-match ban.

Spanish authorities gave the reigning Ballon d’Or winner an additional four-game ban for the physical altercation, the minimum for minor contact with a referee (with the maximum being 12 matches).
