Justin Gatlin jeered again by London crown as he collects his World 100m gold medal but retiring hero Usain Bolt gets standing ovation

USAIN BOLT lapped up the adoration of the London crowd as he eclipsed Justin Gatlin’s coronation as world 100 metres champion.
Sprinting superstar Bolt was given a standing ovation and performed for the fans as he completely stole the limelight from the medal ceremony to present Gatlin with his controversial gold medal.

Organisers had attempted to reduce the potential protest the crowd could make by switching the time of the presentation to when fans were still taking their seats.

But after being jeered loudly when he beat Usain Bolt and Christian Coleman in Saturday’s final, the anger among the fans still remained with mixture of boos and gentle applause greeting his announcement to the podium.

Yet the ferocity of the abuse was much reduced from Saturday night’s vitriol as the emotion of the occasion, and seeing Bolt lose his final individual race before retirement, led to deafening boos.

Instead, those in the three-quarters full arena were too busy paying tribute to silver medallist Coleman and their departing hero Bolt.

The Jamaican’s announcement as bronze medal winner was greeted with a huge roar and standing ovation that went on for almost a minute as Bolt acknowledged all areas of the crowd.

As Gatlin’s face appeared on the giant screens, boos began to echo around the stadium although they were almost drowned out by the muted cheers and applause as his victory at least gained some respect from the fans.
