Create time for vacation periods in your marriage

It’s the holiday season in most part of the world, a great time to take that well deserved break with your spouse and your children (if you are parents), away from the hullabaloo which is plaguing many societies today.
As a wedding professional, I often notice that the last thing many couples getting married in Nigeria discuss is their honeymoon. In fact, it’s not on most couples’ to do list and it is simply classified as an exorbitant and unreasonable item when discussing their wedding budget.

 Misplaced priority

Think about it, a newly wedded couple spends millions of Naira on a one or two-day celebration, spends six months to a year planning the event and working full time in most cases to raise the extra cash needed to make that big impression on their big day. The wedding is done and dusted, the couple, especially the bride in most cases, is left exhausted and sometimes demoralized after the experience and bang…life continues and it is business as usual!

Unfortunately, such situation is replicated in many couples’ lives after the ‘I DO’ today and that has continued to create a society where health and well being has become a misplaced priority leading to imbalance family ethics.

 Public holidays are not enough

Just before the business communities disagree with me on this; all I’m simply saying is that public holidays alone are not enough for those well deserved vacations especially when you have children. Taking time out of your busy work life to spend some quality time with your spouse will boost your marriage and enhance your relationship with the workforce. When you have a well balanced home life, it will definitely reflect on your efficiency at work.

Work and no play

We all grew up quoting the idiom, “All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy”. Many marriages are struggling today because many couples work round the clock and barely create time for intimacy. On the other hand, parenting brings so many responsibilities with little or no support from families especially when you leave far away from families and friends. Perhaps you have consistently blamed your job for not creating the well deserved break you need to get away with your spouse or family. The truth is; you will never get away unless you snap out of this self denial.

 Money is not enough

The frequent excuse most couples give for not going on vacations today is that they simply cannot afford the expenses involved in taking a good holiday. But when you consider the physical and emotional stress of working tirelessly, going on vacation will help your body turn off the stress systems.

Vacations do not have to cost a fortune, everyone can afford a break as long as it is within your financial capacity.

NOTE: Everyone deserves a good break; a great marriage can only be made possible when you both understand the importance of living a life full of many lasting memories of things you did together as a couple.

You only create time for things that are of uttermost importance to you. If your spouse and children are truly an important part of your life, start investing in a long lasting happiness of time that money certainly cannot buy.
