Sorrow! Two die in Ekiti auto crash

Two people died in a road accident which occurred at Ajebamidele Junction along Ikere Road in Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital on Wednesday.

The accident, involving a red Mazda car and a stationary Mercedes Benz truck parked by the roadside, happened around 8am.

The driver of the car, with number plate, TY 333 AAA, with four passengers, was said to be speeding before ramming into the stationery truck marked, AAA 242 XA.

Officers of the Nigeria Police Force and the Federal Road Safety Corps were said to have moved to the scene to join rescue work.

The Police Public Relations Officer in Ekiti State, Alberto Adeyemi, confirmed the death of two of the victims, adding that three others were  on the danger list at the Emergency Ward of Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital, Ado Ekiti.

The FRSC Public Education Officer in Ekiti State, Mohammed Olowo, said the accident was caused by speeding on the part of the driver of the Mazda car.

Olowo said, “Speeding on the part of the driver of the Mazda car caused the accident. Five people were involved and the victims were taken to a hospital.”
