Nasarawa police rescue director, others from kidnappers’ den

The Nasarawa State Police Command on Tuesday confirmed the rescue of four victims kidnapped by unidentified armed men last Saturday in the Kokona/Keffi Local Government Area of the state.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Kennedy Idrisu, told Northern City News in Lafia, that the rescued victims included a director in the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Dr. Sam Anzaku.

Others were Obinna Maduagwu of the Bank of Agriculture, Enugu branch, a retired Assistant Superintendent of Police, David Mathew from Lafia, and a lady, Hauwa Dahiru.

The police spokesman said a search party comprising operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, Police Mobile Force personnel and conventional policemen in collaboration with vigilance groups and local hunters rescued the victims at a hill behind Angwan Mayo situated at the boundary between Nasarawa and Kaduna states.

Idrisu said the Garaku Divisional Police Officer, ASP Abdulbaqi Zandam, led the team that stormed the hideout of the suspected kidnappers.

“The victims were rescued after the hoodlums abandoned them and escaped through the bush,” he stated.

Idrisu said the police recovered AK47 magazine with 28 rounds of live ammunition, two SIM cards, one memory card, and charms, adding that the command had intensified efforts to arrest the fleeing suspects.
