Jumia delivery man might face life threatening sentence, reason will shock you

The police in Lagos have arraigned a 35-year-old Delivery man, Charles Akinsipe, before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court, for allegedly stealing parcels worth N529,000 from his employer, Jumia Company.

Akinsipe, a resident of Ogba, Ikeja, is standing trial on a one-count charge of stealing.

The accused pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, Raji Akeem, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on July 19, on Acme Road, Ogba, Ikeja.

He alleged that Akinsipe stole parcels valued at N529,000.

The prosecutor said when the defendant delivers parcels to customers, he tells them to transfer the money to his own account, instead of paying into the company’s official account.

Akeem said when the company discovered that the defendant had been stealing from them, they reported the matter to the police and the accused was arrested.

According to the prosecutor, the offence contravenes Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (revised).

The Magistrate, T.O Shomade, granted the defendant bail at N100,000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case till August 15 for mention.
