The Sun of UK reported that she was found lying in a pool of her blood outside the store in Asda in Shoebury, Essex on Tuesday following the incident at around 1.50pm.
The pensioner was taken to hospital with a suspected broken leg but died this morning, police confirmed.
“It was chaos. The staff in Asda were shouting out for anyone who was a doctor or had first aid training,” an eyewitness said.
“It looked like the van had just gone straight through a bollard and mown her down. It seems the driver had put their foot down on the accelerator rather than the brake.
“There was a lot of blood all over the place.”
Megan Sylvester, 21, a volunteer at the Marie Curie shop, next to the supermarket, said staff heard a screech and then a bang as the Renault van wiped out the bollard.
She said, “The staff from Asda and George were amazing. They got blankets immediately and were helping her.
“We are all so concerned about that lady, it was just crazy.”
Co-worker Marilyn Muller, 60, said the woman was thought to be a centenarian.
She said, “I heard that she was 100 years old. There was a disabled child as a passenger in the van and the driver was a woman.”
A 71-year-old woman was also injured in the incident but she was treated at the scene for minor injuries and not taken to hospital.
