Senate moves to pass anti-jungle justice bill

The Senate on Tuesday urged its committee on judiciary to urgently accelerate the passage of the Anti-jungle justice Bill which is before it.

It said the passage of the Bill will address the raising cases of jungle justice in the country.
The senate which condemned the raising cases of jungle justice in the country urged the Nigerian Police to immediately ensure that they fish out all perpetrators of the barbarism and make sure they are brought to book .

It also urged the police and other security agencies to live up to their responsibilities to protect younger Nigerians from acts of jungle justice.

The senate further urged the Attorney-General of the Federation, the state Attorney-Generals and the police to show greater sense of duty

These resolutions followed a motion titled “condemning the rising cases of jungle justice in the country” co sponsored by sen Gbenga Ashafa and the senate leader, Sen Ali Ndume.

Sen Ashafa who lead debate on the motion said it was disturbed that jungle justice which is without recourse to the law courts was on the increase in Nigeria and needed to be stopped.

It further observed the growing culture of extreme hate and disregard to human life, coupled with the institutional lethargy against prosecution by some state Attorney Generals, with recent case of Mrs Bridget Agbahime who was killed in July 2016 by angry mob in Kano for having a different opinion from those of her attackers.
