How Kanu Pushed Me To Make England Move - Ahmed Musa
AHMED MUSA has revealed the part Nwankwo Kanu played in his decision to join Leicester, Express.co.ukreports.
The Nigeria forward signed for the Premier League champions for around £15m from CSKA Moscow during the summer.
While his blistering pace has caught the eye, the 23-year-old has struggled to get ahead of Jamie Vardy, Islam Slimani, Leonardo Ulloa and Shinji Okazaki in the pecking order.
But Musa says Kanu’s words of advice helped convince him to move to England and admits he is an Arsenal fan.
“I grew up as an Arsenal fan. All because of Nwankwo Kanu, he is like a role model for me,” he told the Guardian.
“I got to know him when I started playing in the national team. He’s like a hero in Nigeria. We always have contact with each other and I spoke to him before I came to Leicester.
“I was in Russia and he called me, because he always advises me what to do.
“He told me that I would enjoy it in the Premier League and England, that it was a nice place.”
Meanwhile, Kanu has lifted the lid on how it felt to be part of Arsenal’s famed ‘Invincibles’ side.
Led by Arsene Wenger, The Gunners went through the entirety of the 2003/4 campaign unbeaten and ended it as Premier League champions.
And they battled on at the beginning of the following season before a controversial 2-0 defeat to Manchester United in October 2004.
That loss brought their undefeated run to an end at 49 league games — a record which has yet to be surpassed.
Now, speaking to Arsenal’s official website, Kanu has recalled being involved in the feat.
“It was incredible to be a part of the ‘Invincibles’ run. People will always remember it and that’s an incredible feeling to have as a footballer, especially given how short our careers can turn out to be,” he said.
