Gov. Ganduje floors Kwankwaso in battle for control of Kano APC
The governor of Kano state, Abdullahi Ganduje, has floored his predecessor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, in the battle to control the governing All Progressives Congress, APC, in the state.
This is came as a four-member fact-finding committee set up by the national headquarters of the party to look into the crisis that followed the sack of its former executive committee, submitted its report Tuesday.
The former committee was populated by Kwankwaso loyalists. Their replacements are members loyal to Mr. Ganduje.
The APC in Kano has been rocked by crisis following the falling out between the two leaders.
The crisis led to the suspension of the former chairman, Umar Doguwa, and two other officials: Sanusi Kwankwaso, the state organising secretary, and Salisu Abbas, state assistant secretary.
APC headquarters eventually sanctioned the appointment of Abdullahi Abbas as acting chairman and Ahmed Muhammad, the assistant state organising secretary, as the acting organising secretary.
Speaking while submitting the report of the fact-finding committee at the national secretariat of the APC on Tuesday, chairman of the committee, Mohammed Magoro, said due process was followed in the suspension of the officials.
“According to our findings, all the procedures required by the party’s constitution, the Kano State Executive Committee, followed due process,” he said.
He also said based on the constitution of the party, the Kano State Executive Committee “has the full powers to appoint the people to occupy the positions”.
According to Mr. Magoro, his committee first sat in Kaduna before later moving to Kano where they visited Governor Ganduje.
He said the committee invited seven persons including the suspended officials. He however, said all the suspended officials failed to honour their invitation.
Earlier, the National Vice Chairman- North West- of the APC, Inuwa Abdul-Kadir, said the report was for the consideration of the appropriate party organ to take a decision.
“We are publicly receiving the report of the fact-finding committee in exhibition of the cardinal principles of this party in respect of transparency and also promoting the rule of law,” he said.
He also said the APC believed in fairness to all and sundry.
“Our party constitution requires that when we receive petitions and complaints from either an organ of the party at any level or from any member of the party in respect of leadership dispute, we are not required to even discuss it, we are only required as a body to send a fact finding committee to make findings and report back so that our discussions will not pre-empt or pre-judge anybody involved in the matter.
“I will not comment on the report. The report is for the consideration of the appropriate party organ to take a decision,” Mr. Abdul-Kadir said.
