Epe kidnap victims to resume on Monday

Olaleye Aluko

As the families of four freed pupils, teacher and vice-principal of Lagos Junior Model College, Igbonla in the Epe area of Lagos State celebrate their release, the victims have been asked to resume academic work on Monday.

PUNCH Metro learnt that the pupils – Okonkwo Emmanuel, Isaac Adebisi, Abu and Jeremiah Ruth – would be reunited with their colleagues in school on Monday, along with the English Language/Civic Education teacher, Lukman Oyerinde, and the Vice-Principal, A.O. Oyesola.

Our correspondent learnt that there had been presence of policemen in the school since the day of the abduction to assure the apprehensive parents that the environment was safe.

The six victims were kidnapped on Thursday, October 6, around 8am, when five gunmen and a woman invaded the school.

PUNCH Metro had reported on Thursday that the victims regained their freedom around 10.30pm on Tuesday, October 11.

A parent had confided in our correspondent that the school pupils, the teacher, and the VP were left by the kidnappers in a bush near the school.

Our correspondent learnt on Thursday from a source in the school that the authorities had told the victims to rest and resume for academic work on Monday.

He said, “They will not come to school on Thursday and Friday. They are still recuperating in their homes. The principal was with the victims on Wednesday after the checkup at the Epe General Hospital. He later advised that they rested till Monday.

“Everyone in the school is excited. The presence of policemen on the premises is reassuring. We hope this will be sustained.”

Our correspondent had reported that two of the school pupils, who were diagnosed with typhoid and malaria, were admitted to an undisclosed hospital in the Epe area.

Two of the parents of the school pupils, who were contacted on the telephone on Thursday, did not pick their calls.

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dolapo Badmos, could not also be reached as of press time to comment on the search for the suspected kidnappers.
