Dede Mabiaku, Waje, Vector thrill at Flavours of Lagos Fiesta
Soulful singer, Aituaje Iruobe, popularly known as Waje, was among notable entertainers that thrilled guests at the maiden edition of the One Lagos Food Festival tagged ‘Flavours of Lagos’.
The two-day event staged at the Bar Beach, Victoria Island, earlier in the week, attracted people from all parts of Lagos and beyond and they were entertained by other established stars like Vector, Olu Maintain and Dede Mabiaku.
The food fiesta, put together by the Lagos State Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture in partnership with a host of small businesses and corporate organisations, was aimed at showcasing the diversity of Nigerian cuisine and delicacies as part of a wider plan to boost tourism in the state. Speaking to Saturday Beats, Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture in Lagos, Mr. Folarin Coker, said entertainment and good food were an integral part of tourism, and that Lagos being the number one destination in Nigeria was proud to showcase some of its unique attributes to the world through the two-day event.
He said, “In developing our tourism sector further and showcasing it to the world, we decided to bring together a host of notable corporate organisations and also people who make different types of food in Lagos to partner with government in celebration of Nigeria’s 56th independence.
“Lagos is an aquatic city and this initiative is one of the strategies we are adopting in creating avenues of employment for the people and also promoting tourism-related activities which in my view is capable of providing a lot of jobs and developing local economies.
“Tourism is an oil well if you look at the population of Nigeria. If we encourage internal tourism, the economy of every state would benefit tremendously from it.”
