CHAOS And Destruction As Fuel Tanker Explodes In Oyo Community
No fewer than 15 houses were razed after a petroleum tanker exploded in the Saki area of Oyo State on Monday.
PUNCH Metro learnt that the tanker was descending a slope at the Kinikini area of the town when the driver lost control and the tanker tumbled, spilling its content into buildings.
Although no life was lost, hundreds of residents were reportedly rendered homeless.
A housewife, who identified herself simply as Adeola, said, “I was still sleeping when I heard people shouting that a tanker had fallen. We all moved out before the tanker eventually caught fire.”
Another resident, Mr. Monsuru Alebiosu, faulted the tanker driver for plying an unauthorised route.
He said, “From now on, we are going to deal seriously with any tanker driver that takes a route not designed for them. More than 15 houses were razed just because a driver refused to obey a simple instruction.”
The Deputy Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Mr. Musah Abdulwasi, offered condolences to the people of the area, promising to get relief materials for the affected residents.
The Caretaker Chairman of Saki West, Mr. Kareem Adegoke, said the council had commenced investigation into the matter to forestall a recurrence.
