Being successful at marriage and acting difficult
My name is Folorunsho Adeola, aka Arike Gold. I am from Abeokuta, Ogun State. I am from a polygamous family. My mum gave birth to six children; three males and three females. I am the second child.
I attended Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta. I studied Mass Communication and thereafter, I joined Bolaji Amusan, aka, Mr. Latin’s theatre group in 2007. I vividly remember the day I told my mum I wanted to become an actress. Initially, she was against it but when I insisted, she discussed it with veteran actress, Toyin Adegbola. It was the latter who advised me to join a theatre group close to my school, so that my education would not be jeopardised. That was how I joined Mr. Latin’s theatre group in 2007. I graduated from the group in 2012.
The first movie I took part in was Alapa Stainless. It was produced by Mr. Latin in 2008. I was shy on my first day on set but I was able to overcome it. Since then, I have taken part in other productions including Ayonitemi, Olowolayemo, Fayeyemi, Orisun, Bibitayo, Baba Gomina, Ipilese, Erin Oni and many more. I have also featured in some English productions. The movies that made me popular are Ayonitemi and Olowolayemo.
My role models are Omoni Oboli, Funke Akindele-Bello and Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde. It is difficult to be a successful actress and be happily married. I like the fact that Omoni and Omotola have been able to create a balance between their careers and marriages. I like Funke Akindele-Bello, because she is a strong woman who has weathered difficult times.
In every industry or organisation, there are always challenges and Nollywood is not an exception. In my case, challenges that I have encountered turned out to be lessons and blessings.
Apart from acting, I also like dancing and travelling. Another business that I would love invest in is food. I see myself opening an eatery someday. I want a place where people can have a taste of local and continental delicacies.
I wear anything I am comfortable in. The first thing that I look out for is absolute comfort. I don’t like to expose my body. I am more comfortable wearing skirts, jeans and matching tops.
A lot has changed in Nollywood. One of the problems affecting the industry is piracy and it is having a negative effect on the film industry. I hope a solution to this problem can be found soon.
Fame is just a temporary thing. It is a phase that will come and go. I do everything to ensure that I am not carried away by the glamour that is attached to what I do.
When I am not on set, I like to spend time indoors and at other times, I like go out with friends.
Relationship with other actors
I have a cordial relationship with most of my colleagues. I am quite friendly, so we get along very well.
At the moment, I am working on my first movie. The storyline is looking good and educative at the moment. I already have a working title for the movie which I won’t disclose for now.
Having made my mark as an actress, my goal is to become a successful producer, a wife and a good mother to my children someday. That would make me a fulfilled woman, so I am looking forward to that.
